The Nuffield Foundation
The Specialist Schools and Academies Trust is the lead body for the Government's specialist schools programme. It seeks to give more young people access to a good secondary education.
Our mission is to build a world class network of innovative, high performing secondary schools in partnership with business and the wider community.
The Trust is at the head of a network of over 2000 affiliated secondary schools, including the majority of the 1454 specialist schools - probably the largest network of its type in the world.
As at September 2003, there were 503 Technology Colleges spread across England and covering all three phases of designation. The first ones to join the programme in 1994 have applied for phase four. Each designated Technology College has its own distinctive ethos, but works towards the aims outlined in the Technology College mission statement click here to read more
The Trust has two main websites:
* www.specialistschools.org.uk – which provides corporate information about the Trust including fundraising opportunities for schools and sponsors and:
* www.schoolsnetwork.org.uk – aimed at providing resources to specialist schools and the Trust's own network of affiliated schools.
