The Nuffield Foundation
The Centre for Research and curriculum development In Primary Technology (CRIPT) is based within the Faculty of Education, University of Central England, Birmingham, and was created 1997. It is unique as the only centre of its kind for primary technology in the UK. The aim of the Centre is to provide support, at all levels, for educators from the UK and from overseas, for primary technology. Staff at the Centre work in partnership with international colleagues, with e.g. DATA, QCA, DfES, Nuffield at a national level and at regional and local levels.
There are a growing number of postgraduate students studying for an MA, MPhil or PhD both from this country and overseas. CRIPT hosts the biennial international primary design and technology conference and participants from every continent attend. The conference proceedings have made a significant contribution to the development of the subject world wide and the next conference is scheduled for June 2005.
Prof Clare Benson
It is led by Professor Clare Benson. The staff of CRIPT are involved in a variety of projects, have produced numerous publications and have national and international reputations in their fields.
The latest project, funded by the DfES, focuses on the Foundation Stage and is researching into Developing designerly thinking in the Foundation Stage. 400 teachers are involved in 20 LEAS across England.
