Case Studies
Helping pupils understand the relationship between technology and society is an important part of design & technology education. Nuffield Design & Technolpogy does this through Case Studies. These are true stories about design & technology in the world outside school.
By reading them, students find out more than they possibly could through designing and making along. Through Case Studies they will learn about the way firms and businesses design and manufacture goods and how those goods are marketed and sold. They will also learn about the impact that products have on the people who use them and the places where they are made.
This type of activity coupled with appropriate Resource Tasks will be particularly useful for considering Products and Applications, Quality, and Health and Safety in the design & technology National Curriculum.
