Resource Tasks

lonnyNuffield Design & Technology has developed a specific type of learning activity called a Resource Task. These are short, practical focused, activities designed to teach the resources for capability in a way which should intrigue and amuse pupils. In the National Curriculum they are called focused practical tasks and disassembly activities.

Resource Tasks are available for 11-14 and 14-16 year olds. Resource Tasks teach students these vital features of design & technology:

  • design strategies;
  • communication techniques;
  • aesthetic apreciation;
  • making skills;
  • technical knowledge and understanding;
  • commercial matters.resource_task_150

The style of learning is active and responsive. Pupils have to explain, design, construct, investigate and test. The learning intention for any one Task is narrow but some Tasks meet several learning intentions.

Teaching pupils through Resource Tasks alone will not develop or reveal their capability. For this you need to use Capability Tasks.
