Introduction

Improving students' designing

girlchairThis section of the website is dedicated to providing you with resources to develop your students' designing skills. These are the key to improving their GCSE performance. There are two main elements – Design Guides and the Design Hexagon.

Design Guides

These provide a straightforward way for students to become familiar with the sorts of questions they should ask when designing for a particular focus area. They can act as a stimulus for students who are having difficulty in deciding on a their main coursework. They can provide a reminder during a Capability Task to ensure that important issues are not overlooked.

Design Hexagon

Overall the Design Hexagon covers all the design strategies that your students will need to be successful at designing products that meet the needs and wants of people in real life situations.

Design Guides and The Design Hexagons have been developed for each focus area: Electronic products, Food technology, Graphic products, Product design (resistant materials) and Textiles.
