The Nuffield Foundation

How will students be taught?

parents_bags_imageTo design and make things that are useful your son or daughter will need to learn about lots of different things:

  • Technical matters (how to get things to work properly)
  • Aesthetic matters (how to get things to look and feel right)
  • Construction (how to fix things together)
  • Designing skills (how to think up, develop and communicate good ideas)
  • Commercial matters (how to sell things)

In the Nuffield course the teacher will use Resource Tasks for this teaching. These are short focused activities that prepare students for the designing and making in the Capability Task.

Your son or daughter will also read Case Studies about the design & technology carried out by people around the world. This will help them to understand how design & technology works in the world outside school.
